On 20th January 2015, Paga Hill Development Company (PNG) Limited was officially announced as a new sponsor for the Writing for Children Award in the 2015 Crocodile Prize, PNG’s national writing contest. The aim of the Crocodile Prize, now in its fifth year of operation, is to encourage local creative writing and provide Papua New Guineans with access to local literature.
On announcement of the sponsorship, Stanley Liria, Paga Hill Development Company Director and Lawyer, said
“As a PNG company, we are honoured to be involved in the 2015 Crocodile Prize competition. It’s a perfect match with what we are trying to achieve under Paga Hill Development Company’s Corporate Social Responsibility program. We look forward to seeing many entries for the Award which showcases our country’s rich storytelling culture.”
Gudmundur Fridriksson, CEO of Paga Hill Development Company, added
“We are delighted to be sponsoring the Writing for Children Award, in particular, as it’s an award which will result in more locally written material being made available to children of all ages in PNG.
The love of language and joy of reading at an early age is a wonderful and powerful gift.”
In 2015, there are eight categories in the Crocodile Prize including Short Stories, Essay & Journalism, Heritage, Poetry, Book of the Year, Tourism, Arts & Culture, Illustration and Writing for Children.
